Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal Tweeted on Saturday, the country's first centralized air-conditioned railway terminal in Bengaluru to go live soon – Named after Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya a foremost civil engineer. The new terminal was planned to open up during February end but due to certain reasons the opening date was put on hold. This terminal was built at a cost of Rs 314 crore at Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru. Once this terminal comes in operation, it will help decongest KSR Bengaluru and Yesvantpur stations in the city. Also long distance trains from Bengaluru to other metros like Mumbai, Chennai and also trains connecting Bengaluru to all districts within Karnataka can be run, the Chief Public Relation Officer of South Western Railway E Vijaya said. Vijaya added, The terminal has a grand canopy over the station building concourse. The terminal building is of 4,200 square meter covered area to cater to daily footfalls of 50,000.
